Sow in spring to early summer (September to December), ideally September–November.
Soak seeds in hot water overnight so the hard coat softens and the seeds swell. Sow in a well-drained sandy mix, keep moist until germination, then water more moderately. Germination is often within 1–4 weeks. Give full sun. Protect young plants from frost for the first season. Water more in summer; keep much drier in winter when the tree is deciduous.
